About Campus Novel
Campus Novel was first conceived as a newsletter of dispatches from my world of the Academic Humanities in the 21st century. I had been tinkering with notes and research for some time, planning a project that hoped to chart a path for reinvention for my beleaguered corner of the modern university.
No sooner did I finally launch the site, however, than higher education as a whole found itself under an unprecedented assault, one which has thrown everything into chaos and uncertainty. The focus of the newsletter has been widened considerably from what I had planned (a vestige of that plan remains in the prologue). For 2025 at least, this will be primarily a series of dispatches from the front of the war on higher education, accompanied by reports from the archives of higher education's history and personal reflections from the heart of the storm.
If you would like to receive the latest in your email, please subscribe. The free subscription comes with access to everything. The paid version is for those who wish to help out with costs of hosting this newsletter. Absolutely no pressure.
Disclaimer
I trust it goes without saying, but I will say it anyway: nothing I write here is speaking on behalf of the Ohio State University, my colleagues, my department of 26 years, the University Senate where I have the privilege to serve as Secretary, or my native state of Ohio. All opinions, good and bad, are my own—as are all the mistakes.
